Kolkata edge Bangalore by five runs


Kolkata Knight Riders came back to winning ways, defeating Bangalore Royal Challengers by five runs in a pulsating rain-curtailed encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens here on Thursday night.Sourav Ganguly's side restricted Royal Challengers to 124 for four after posting a challenging score of 129 for seven in their allotted 16 overs.The match witnessed a keen tussle between the two sides fighting for their survival in the Twenty20 league. Though it was not a high scoring game, the highlight of the match was some eye-catching fielding and disciplined bowling from both sides.J Arun Kumar (22 off 17) and Shivnaraine Chanderpaul (7) gave a perfect start to Royal Challengers' run chase putting on 17 runs for the first wicket. However, a sensational direct hit from Brad Hodge cut short Arun Kumar's innings to bring the match at even terms at 33 for two in 4.5 overs. Chennai clinch IPL thriller against Daredevils


Chennai Super Kings scored 15 runs from the last over to snatch a heart-stopping four-wicket victory over Delhi Daredevils in a thrilling Indian Premier League return leg match here on Thursday.Chasing 188, Super Kings top order clicked for once but the match went down the wire before the visitors reaching the target in the last ball of their innings to hand their opponents their second consecutive loss.In a cliffhanger of a match which saw fortunes fluctuating from one side to the other, the MS Dhoni-led side was cruising along at 98 for two after 10 overs but slumped to 166 for six in the penultimate over to find themselves in a precarious position of scoring 15 from the last over off Shoaib Malik with the seventh wicket pair of S Badrinath and Manpreet Gony at the crease.Gony held on to his nerves to hit a six and four from the first two legitimate balls before S Badrinath took a single from the last ball to stun more than 30,000 Kotla crowd.Stephen Fleming top-scored with 44 while his opening partner S Vidyut scored 40 and Dhoni chipped in with a useful 33.
